Activity 1: Reading a story

In pairs, read the story below and answer the questions given.

Silanoi and Imani are children of Mr and Mrs Furaha.

Silanoi is a good singer. She has travelled to many places to represent her school in music competitions. She also sings in church.

Imani is a good athlete and a painter. He represents his school in athletic competitions. He also paints pictures of animals and plants. Through practice and hard work, Silanoi and Imani ensure their school is always on top of the list.

During their free time, they love to visit the sick and the elderly. Silanoi sings for them while Imani paints beautiful pictures for them. They love seeing the smiles on their faces. Their parents are happy with them. They always thank them for using their talents and abilities for the good of others.

Activity 2: Reciting a poem

In groups, recite the poem below and answer the questions given.

Talents and abilities

Talking of talent, yes my God given talent,
​I am a footballer, actually a good goalkeeper,
​They have even nicknamed me, ‘sticky hands’,
​But I tell them it’s a gift from God.

They say my talent has made me famous,
​That my goalkeeping skills are excellent,
​But I tell them I need a lot of practice, hard work and discipline,
​To develop my goalkeeping talent.

They say my talent has earned me great respect,
​At school and in the community,
​Because I train young people in the community,
​I motivate young people to use their talents responsibly.

Activity 3: Composing a poem

  1. In groups, compose a poem on ‘My talents and abilities’.
  2. Recite your poem to the class.
  3. Organise a talents show in class and in the community. Demonstrate your talent in class and in the community.

With the guidance of your parent or guardian, discuss how you can use your talents and abilities to enhance responsibility.
